Rant like Mel Gibson

ok, maybe not that guy. But still, i gotta say: I HATEHATEhateH8 having the bar (soda fountain) in my DJ booth. uurrrrRRRRAAAAHHHH like Melle Mel !! there are myriad reasons why; let me go over the main ones before somebody else wants something to drink...

First of all, it's a strip club, so the DJ has to manage the stage rotation to make sure everyone gets to the right spot at the right time. Emtpy stages are bad for business. And dancers have a way of being busy at inconvenient times. welcome to my primary nightmare.

Also, I'm restricted by the length of the song, and if i don't have another song cued up in the playlist, or if a change is neeeded, i have to get that in before the current song ends. If the music should stop, i have about 2.5 seconds to correct it before people (who think they're real funny) start yelling "hey dj, what the f**k?" or my favorite, "REEE-MIX!!!!" So, if i'm busy trying to serve a drink when that happens, it only aggravates the problem. And the DJ.

Furthermore, guys usually approach me when it's least convenient, like right at the end of a song, or when i'm doing something that pertains to my actual JOB. Then they look at me all mad like "this bartender has no customer service skills" or something and just EXPECT that it's my job to serve them drinks and make change. While writing this, i've had to stop and serve a total of fourteen drinks!

Add to all this the fact that we don't serve alcohol. None. The front cashiers, for fear of scaring customers away by being up and up, usually just ring folks up and hand them their tickets for "your free drinks." So when they get to me, i get to explain that NO, we don't have any beer, and YES you just paid for two sodas at the door. Then, we have the ones who can't decide, using up even more of the time i DON'T have to go, "uhhh.... coke. No, Root beer. I mean, Dr. Pepper," etc. Or worse, shove a drink ticket in my face and declare, "SPRITE." Look on the ground, i think your "please" fell out.

Finally, it's a bar, and bars have all sorts of various flavored liquids that don't get along well with computers. (Actually, it's the computers that have a problem with the drinks; the sodas don't really care.) And since the company is probably not going to reimburse me for my MacBookPro getting damaged, I try hard to serve as few drinks as possible. It usually doesn't work, though, and i'll ring up anywhere from 30 to 100 drinks each night, giving me plenty to gripe about. I wasn't there for the club build-out, otherwise i'd have complained then when it could have actually done some good; thanks at least for letting me vent!

ciao for nao,
cja
